THE SOUL OF HOI AN

Different moments stopped in time, colours, age-old gestures of your people which repeat themselves, people ready to sacrifice everything in the simplicity of their daily lives. The walls of the houses have stories to tell. They have witnessed thousand of events over the centuries and will see still more. The South china Sea is their master, the great God determining everything, even the destruction of men and things. Hoi An exists because of its link with the sea. It isn’t easy to show all this in separate images, even though the people’s faces show their awareness. Of living for just a moment of eternity. The interiors of the houses visited by generations over the centuries, today talk to those who are willing to listen. It’s almost a music evoked by objects which gives a special air of being ‘’lived-in’’ as in few other parts of the world. Just the light from a courtyard at the end of a dark corridor is enough to light up the indigo again and make us dream and appreciate the extraordinary sight before us. Thank you Hoi An for allowing us to share this remarkable experience.
